Five Ways to Make Google Love You
Google is where it is at. If Google loves you, you can expect your traffic to dramatically increase. You should provide useful content, but that’s up to you. Let’s see what we can do about making Google fall in love with you.

1. Keep your code clean. Messy HTML is not something that robots and spiders can digest. You might get the complete “talk-to-the-hand” from Google if they don’t understand what you’re trying to say. Keep it simple stupid (KISS).

Giving and Receiving Feeback
One of the most critical aspects of effective coaching is to be able to give and receive feedback productively. Identifying issues that need to be worked on, developing action plans, and assessing results are all part of the coach’s role.
Focus on Behavior, not Personality or Intent

When giving and receiving feedback, it’s important to focus on behavior without focusing on personality or character. When describing a behavior, and its impact on others, don’t use language that could be construed as judgmental or would cause the person receiving the feedback to feel defensive. You wouldn’t want to say “You’re rude,” but you might say “You interrupted Jane several times during her presentation.” State your observation of the behavior, not your interpretation of the behavior.

Guide to Effective Coaching
One of the most important contributions a leader can make to their team and its members is coaching them to improve their performance. To effectively coach, one must first be a keen observer. Identify team members’ strengths and weaknesses and understand the impact each team member has on the others.
Determine what the person does well, or doesn’t do well. Try to get to the root of the problem.
- Refrain from premature judgments. It may require more than a couple of observations to get an accurate impression.
- Get input from others. Collaborate with your peers or supervisors and include their observations in your summarization.
- Don’t set unrealistic expectations. Remember that your own abilities or standards of performance won’t fit for everyone. If you assume others have the same motivation or strengths as you, you might set unfair expectations.
- Be a great listener. A team member might be asking for your help, but you’re not hearing it. Ask yourself if you’ve provided ample opportunities for dialogue, and if you’ve been actively listening.

Managing Information Overload
I love being able to keep up on the latest news, conversations, and trends, and I admit to spending much of my day reviewing clever tweets on Twitter…but here’s a confession. I find myself on information overload quite often. Every day I’m inundated with links to original and topical blogs, new product offers to review, and topics to weigh in on. As a writer, I try to absorb as much information as I can on marketing strategies and industry related news, which can leave me drowning in a sea of information.
